Brookdale Senior Living today announced its commitment to support the Alzheimer’s Association as a Platinum National Team for Memory Walk 2008, which helps to raise funds for research, care and support nationwide. Brookdale has pledged to raise at least $400,000 in this year’s campaign.
“As one of the nation’s leading providers of Alzheimer’s and dementia care, we feel the impact and see the ravages of this disease on our residents and on our associates and their families every day,” said Bill Sheriff, chief executive officer of Brookdale. “We are dedicated to the care we provide our residents who have Alzheimer’s, and are energized to do whatever we can to raise awareness and funds to help treat and eradicate this disease.”
According to a 2008 study of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias:
• More than 5.2 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s disease.
• One in eight persons age 65 or more has Alzheimer’s disease.
• Someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease every 71 seconds.
In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for Memory Walk. This year, Brookdale is looking to double its contributions over last year’s effort.
The Company’s Clare Bridge communities focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. These and other select communities offer secured environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure Daily Moments of Success for residents of Brookdale communities.
